Celtic Christian Spirituality

An Afternoon with St. Brigid

Sunday, April 24

Noon - 4pm

Wadsworth Room

Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary

3003 Benham Ave, Elkhart, IN

Facilitated by Laura Funk

Hosted with Kay and Becky Reimbold

The Celts have a saying that all stories are true... and some of them really happened! This retreat will explore some of the legendary stories around the 5th & 6th Century Christian Saint. From milkmaid to Bishop, we will explore her love of creation, her incredible communion with the Holy Spirit, her passion for justice, her leadership, her playful tendencies and her love for all. The retreat will focus on integrating her ways of following Jesus with our own lives. Participants are encouraged to bring their journals to use in reflection and contemplative times.

About the Facilitator

Laura’s interest in Celtic Spirituality goes back many years. The Celtic lands have drawn her a number of times to explore both the geography and the spirituality of the Celtic people (including the pilgrimage when she met Kay and Becky). She has a B.A. in Theology, and is currently finishing her Master's Degree in Christian Ministry at AMBS while keeping up her practice as a Spiritual Director.

This mini-retreat will follow a rhythm of moving from story to song to scripture to personal integration and application. There will be times of contemplation, reflection, prayer, engaging in creative activity, singing, listening to music, stories and poetry.   If weather permits, there will options for spending time outdoors.  You may wish to enjoy the campus after the retreat ends.

Please pay what you are able.  Includes lunch and any materials thatmight be needed.  If we collect funds above the cost of the day, they will be donated to Solas Bridé, the St. Brigid Center in Kildare, Ireland.

“. . . a creative, many splendored retreat!” -Marlene Kropf, professor , AMBS
